Honestly, this is just another example of how the state's so-called "war on drugs" makes things way worse for regular people. When the government cracks down, it doesn’t actually solve anything—it just pushes the violence onto the streets and innocent folks get caught in the crossfire. The root problem is the criminalization and the power structures that prop up these gangs in the first place. If people had real autonomy and communities had control over their own affairs, we might have a shot at real safety, not this endless cycle of violence and repression. More militarized police and emergency declarations just mean more suffering for everyday Ecuadorians.

This is exactly why we need even tougher crackdowns and military presence in the streets—these criminals only understand force. The government shouldn't hesitate to use whatever means necessary to restore order, even if it means suspending some rights until safety is guaranteed.
